Wet Tape Versus Regular Tape

I have learned that when it comes to specializing in an industry there is a reason why someone who has been there for 20 years has some respect.  There are so many subtleties to any business industry that even those warehouse managers deserve immense respect for how they run things and how much savings they are doing or could be doing from their work.  I was blown away this year being 2020 in the rage of eCommerce companies.  The industry has taken off and it has put millions of business owners into the fray of learning how to run a shipping department.  There are so many important aspects of things to do and ways to run the company but there are also some easy tricks that may be applicable to your company and may save you thousands of dollars in product and thousands of dollars in labor as well.  So I want to go over a few areas and one of them is going to be the area of tape.

Tape seems so trivial when it comes to the overall budget of a company, but it has some fundamental lessons to be learned.  The fact is that tape is generally just a part of your packaging supplies orders and is there to help send out your boxes or bags on all the items you sell.  This should tell you a few different things and one of those is that it is used in every single transaction that you make.  The other thing is that because it is used so much that it is going to be purchased in a large quanity.  But there are aspects of tape you may not be aware of.

There are so many kinds of tape and clear packing tape that it would surprise you.  I was amazed when I ended up talking with an industry professional at how much I didn’t know.  Now our company started really increasing our shipping and what I found was that we were using tons of regular pack tape to send out each of our heavy orders.  There would be up to 6 to 10 strips of tape used for every single box and the costs were being noticed.  After talking with a professional I found there was a reason people were using so much tape.  It was because the warehouse packers knew what was needed for that box to hold and with that tape, it was a lot.  But my professional told me to either switch to a better thicker grade tape that would take less strips or use wet tape for our boxes.

There is a new type of tape that has the strength of duct tape but looks professional and is really quick to implement.  Wet tape allows you to pre-cut strips of a super strong and super fast to employ tape for each box. This type of tape holds up to 10 times the weight of what we were using and with only one strip.  What we found was that we could pack all of our boxes with one strip on top and one on the bottom.  That was all that was needed to seel a super heavy box with this new and super strength item.  It saved us thousands.  So give it a shot.
